What Is Root Canal Therapy?
Inside each tooth is a soft tissue called the pulp, which contains nerves and blood vessels that help support the tooth during development. When this pulp becomes infected or damaged due to deep decay, trauma, or other concerns, it can lead to pain and ongoing infection.
Root canal therapy involves removing the affected pulp, carefully cleaning and disinfecting the inside of the tooth, and sealing it to help prevent further infection. This allows the tooth to remain in place while addressing the source of infection.
To support accuracy and comfort, treatment is completed using local anesthesia and diagnostic imaging. In many cases, a dental crown is recommended after treatment to restore strength and help protect the tooth over the long term.
